Land of Green Ginger
for Hull UK City of Culture 2017

There once was a Land that nobody believed existed. And every day people passed by it or over it or around it or through it, but never once saw it or felt it or heard it or knew any person or thing in it. Until, one day, the Land revealed itself...

Pinwheel Director, Katy Fuller, conceived and directed one of the longest and most impactful projects for Hull UK City of Culture while in her role as Executive Producer. Taking place over two years and the entire city, this £1.4m project took mindfully crafted and beautifully produced “Acts of Wanton Wonder” into the neighbourhoods, streets and doorsteps of the residents of Hull. It turned places which had seen little love or attention into places of delight, wonder and possibility, and it become an allegory for the transformative city of culture journey that the people of Hull went on.

It involved processions, projections, bonfires, bus stops, mythical alleys and real horses. It culminated in the delivery of a beautifully illustrated storybook to every single household in the city.
